§ 34-3. Commission.

  • (a)

    The commission shall consist of twenty (20) members serving without compensation broadly representative of business, government, labor, religious, elderly, racial, ethnic, legal health, welfare and education groups in the community. Ten (10) of said members shall be appointed by the executive of the county of Onondaga and ten (10) shall be appointed by the mayor of the city of Syracuse. Of the ten (10) members first appointed by the mayor and of the ten (10) members first appointed by the county executive, four (4) shall be appointed for one year; three (3) for two (2) years and three (3) for three (3) years. In the event of the death or resignation of any member, his successor shall be appointed to serve for the unexpired period of the term for which such member has been appointed. The mayor and the county executive may appoint city and county officials to serve ex officio on such commission.

    (b)

    The chairman shall be elected from the membership of the commission members to serve for a term of one year. The chairman shall preside at all commission meetings and planning and priorities committee meetings and represent the commission.

    (c)

    The vice-chairman shall be elected from the membership of the commission by the commission members to serve for a term of one year. The vice-chairman shall, in the absence of the chairman, act in his place.

    (d)

    The mayor of the city of Syracuse and the executive of the county of Onondaga shall be honorary co-chairman of the commission.
